Black Women Film Network’s Annual Luncheon
Atlanta’s Marriot Marquis swarmed Friday with innovators in film for the annual Black Women Film Network’s “Untold Stories Awards” and Scholarship luncheon. Dignitaries, media professionals and actresses gathered to celebrate standouts in cinema and press at the midday occasion.
Carrying a purpose of preserving the voice of Black women through film and related areas, BWFN honored actress and wellness/lifestyle guru A. J. Johnson, “Vampire Diaries” star Katerina Graham, “The Have and the Have Nots” actress Crystal Fox, film investor Bernard Bronner, Weather Channel executive producer Kashira Alexander, WSB TV2 editorial director Jocelyn Dorsey and artistic director Deidre McDonald of the BronzeLens Film Festival.
Additionally, hosts Egypt Sherrod and Karyn Greer introduced two BWFN scholarship recipients, Danyelle Carter (below) and Gabriela W. Aurazo, to the crowd.
Katerina “Kat” Graham admitted that she was nervous before accepting her award while Crystal Fox fought back tears while watching a video tribute prepared for her by the OWN network, home to her Tyler Perry produced television show.
A.J. Johnson’s speech warranted hoops and hollers when she noted that her A.J. Zone lifestyle wellness program was God’s work and changing lives. Bernard Bronner, who was joined by his wife at the program, joked about being the sole member of his famed family that was not a member of the clergy.
“I won’t hold you long,” said Bronner. “If the Bishop was here you’d be here till dinner.”
