A crime plagued LA Fitness in a Minneapolis suburb was the site of a massive brawl involving 10-15 people inside the building. It all started on the basketball court over a bad call and escalated to a dangerous level. “People were throwing five and ten pound weights at each other,” reported Roseville police spokesman Lt. Lorne Rosand. He went on to say that the mob fight was the latest in an ongoing series of issues. This particular LA Fitness has had 147 criminal complaints in 2013 and 24 so far in 2014. The police state the incidents are mainly theft related and LA Fitness has refused to take the police recommended actions.
The police have requested the gym hire a security guard and install cameras. Unfortunately, according to police “They don’t want to take any proactive measures outside of the building to prevent theft.” Lorne went on to say that the business is bordering on becoming a public nuisance, which would allow the police to close the doors of the gym.
A total of six people were arrested including three juveniles. Those identified by police as participants in the fight include Ali Yusuf Barre and Abdiri Yasin Duad. These individuals along with a third unidentified adult will be charged with disorderly conduct and participating in a riot.
