National Association for Female Executives Atlanta recently held its Women’s History Month annual event, Phenomenal Women: On Top of Their Game and How They Got There. This writer was invited by their executive director Lisa Douglas to contribute to this round table discussion alongside award-winning marketing communications professional Alicia Thompson of Edelman; skilled attorney and serial entrepreneur Tracey Basset; and public relations and integrated consumer marketing strategist Carla Cartwright of Porter-Novelli.
During the think tank discussion, we discussed the traits or characteristics that make up a phenomenal woman and who in history and presently exemplified this label. The responses ranged from the late Dorothy I. Height, Melody Hobson to Arianna Huffington, Nobel Peace Prize nominee Malala Yousafzai and family members.
When asked about the most rewarding experience in our professional lives, Thompson gave a tear-jerking testimonial. She shared that during a trip to New York, her brother reconnected her with several of her past mentees, who never met one another, for a surprise dinner. Each of the ladies shared the impact she had on their lives and their career success.
