Columbus Short addresses restraining order
Just one day after news broke that his wife filed a restraining order against him, Columbus Short addressed the claims directly. As previously reported, the star’s wife,Tanee McCal, alleged that he antagonized her during a fight April 7 and threatened to kill her and himself. She has since filed for divorce and gotten a restraining order against him.
Now speaking on the alleged incident and the upcoming season finale of “Scandal,” a very chipper Short told Roland Martin of “NewsOneNow“ that he and his wife have “amazing scriptwriters” and declined to say anything further.
“Saw a report yesterday about, you know, issues when it comes to your estranged wife filing for divorce; said that you threatened her — to kill her and commit suicide. Sounds like a real-life Olivia Pope,” said Martin to the ABC star who laughed as the question was asked. “ Your thoughts on that?”
“We have some amazing scriptwriters,” answered Short. “It’s … life … life has the best scriptwriters of all time. That’s all I can say about that. But I’m still here. I’m standing. I’m talking. Let’s go!” he added.
He has since released a statement on his wife’s allegations noting that his legal team has advised him to decline to comment.
“As you all know, lately my personal life has been subjected to a lot of press,” wrote Short. As much as I would like to provide my side of events, my counsel has instructed me that a court of law is the only and proper venue to deal with such matters.”
“Accordingly, I must refrain from making any comments, even though that is very difficult for me under the circumstances,” he added. “Thank you to my fans for your continued support during this difficult time.
