Grammy nominated, singer, songwriter and producer Tank recently released a comeback single titled “You’re My Star.” The R&B ballad from his forthcoming album, Stronger is creating quite a buzz and has built up anticipation for the album’s release amongst fans. Beyond his hit single, Tank recently made headlines for taking a stand against Donald Sterling and refusing to sing the National Anthem at Tuesday night’s Clippers game during the NBA Playoffs. Tank has not only proven that he is a man of integrity, but he is also dedicated to his fans.
In a recent interview with rolling out, Tank revealed how he connects with his audience, his plans for his music in the upcoming year and what we can expect at the Essence Music Festival.
How do you connect with your fans and why is it important?
As a performer, I learned early how to connect with the crowd. I learned that from church. You better sing with conviction. They say “you better act like you know.” They’ll sit [in church] and look at you strange like “what are you singing about?” You have to learn early to sing with your heart, sing with your soul. I just brought that over into the R&B game. It’s still about empowering, it’s still about relationships.
What do we have to look forward to from Tank this year?
[Year] 2014 is going to be about expansion and growth. They’ve seen what they think they know about me but now we’re going to introduce them to some new things about Tank. The next evolution is here. “You’re My Star” is the new single out; Stronger is the album.
You will be performing at ESSENCE Music Festival this year. What can fans expect?
ESSENCE Music Festival main stage will show who Tank really is and what Tank really does.
