The Dream announced it will partner with After-School All-Stars to conduct a FIT Clinic on Tuesday, May 13, at the Georgia Dome for more than 1,100 students from Atlanta public middle schools. The event, which will take place from 5-7 p.m., will highlight the Dream’s involvement in WNBA Cares week, which takes place from May 9-15.
The Dream’s entire organization including players, coaches and staff will be present at the clinic, working with the youth on various physical exercises while emphasizing the importance of staying active and living a healthy lifestyle. The event will also include the Dream’s mascot Star, the Dream Shooting Stars dance team, the FOX Sports South girls, and V-103 will broadcast live from the event.
Middle schools sending their students to the FIT Clinic include: Best Academy, Brown, Coan, Coretta Scott King, Harper-Archer, Long, MLK, Price, Sylvan and Young.
“We’re thrilled to be able to partner with After-School All-Stars to conduct this clinic,” said Dream executive vice president and general manager Angela Taylor. “Health and wellness is one of the pillars of our community service initiative, and partnering with an outstanding organization such as After-School All-Stars to teach children the importance of exercise and a healthy lifestyle will be a rewarding experience. We hope this event has a positive impact on many young lives.”
“We are extraordinarily fortunate to have these players, coaches and the whole Atlanta Dream organization partnering with us,” said Dr. Walt Thompson, executive director of the After-School All-Stars in Atlanta and a Georgia State University College of Education associate dean. “The Dream players are not only role models because of their basketball playing ability, but for their dedication to teaching some of our city’s most vulnerable kids how to get enough exercise and how to eat properly. The Be Fit programs hosted by our extraordinary partners provide an opportunity for our After-School All-Stars kids to meet their heroes, but more importantly, learn from them.”
A number of the Dream’s corporate partners, including Piedmont, Georgia Power and Legoland, have made significant contributions to help make the event possible. In addition, Family Dollar and Casadian Farms will assist in preparing gift bags donated by Academy Sports that will be presented to all participants. Equipment for the event will be provided by Jaypro.
