August Alsina admits fault in ‘106 & Park’ blowup

106 & Park Live

Last month, rising R&B singer August Alsina shocked viewers after he  insulted “106 & Park” host Keshia Chante on camera after she asked about his beef with Trey Songz. Now, weeks after the awkward incident, August is opening up on the matter and admitting he’s partially to blame for the blowup.

During an interview with Hot 97, August addressed the BET fiasco and claimed that he wasn’t being mean to Chante, he was just being honest.

“I wasn’t mean. Here’s the thing, people get honesty and mean mixed up,” he said.

When the hosts tried to explain to Alsina that he didn’t have to go so far as to curse at Chante, he disagreed and said that he was just venting how he felt in the moment.

“You can say that now, but if you put me in the position that’s how I felt. I went back to BET yesterday and that’s exactly what I said. She was like, ‘I didn’t mean to disrespect you’ and I was like, ‘well, it wasn’t my intention to disrespect you.’ But the thing was before this conversation, I felt how I felt and I spoke on how I felt and I don’t take back nothing that I said.”

Alsina explained that he and his team had told the network several times before the interview not to ask him about Trey Songz, but he admits that Chante was just following orders from her BET bosses.

“Yeah, my whole squad, but I think that sometimes people can be set up and I think people are just doing their job,” Alsina admitted.

The hosts then challenged Alsina, saying that there never would’ve been any drama to speak of had he not told the world that he and Trey were beefing.

“Nobody would’ve ever known but you know it’s all a part of me growing. I speak from my heart, I got a big f—–g mouth. It just is what it is, I don’t know how to change that but in all reality what I said was never to try to belittle the next n—a or try to cause a problem with the next n—a, it’s like this is how I feel. I’m the idiot because I said what I said thinking ‘maybe if I say this, these n—as won’t ask me about this no more.’ ”

Alsina now says that whatever beef he had with Trey is now unimportant and that he and Trey are OK.

“We don’t have a problem. I just talked to Trey that day I was in Miami with Jeezy and he got on the line with Jeezy and I hollered at him,” Alsina said.

Well, hopefully this is a lesson learned for the young singer. Keep private matters private and if you can avoid a public beef, do so. –nicholas robinson
