If you live in Dallas, by now you’ve probably heard about the movement happening to expose racial profiling and blatant discrimination at restaurants and clubs in the hip Uptown area. Dallas resident DeAndré Upshaw launched a social media campaign against Kung Fu Saloon, a popular Uptown Dallas bar with the self-imposed tagline “kickin’ butt and takin’ shots.” Upshaw says the bouncer refused him entry because he was wearing Converse high-top shoes, but Upshaw believes he wasn’t let in because he’s black. He backs his allegations with the fact that his friends, who happen to be Anglo American, were let in without any problem and were dressed similarly.
