A teacher and track coach at a Louisiana high school allegedly exposed a 16-year-old male student to the AIDS virus. According to WLTV, Derrick Nesby, 37, had sex with the teenage student while on the staff at H.L. Bourgeois High School in Terrebonne Parish.
A resource officer at the school informed police after discovering that a sexual relationship occurred between the student and teacher. Police officers investigated the relationship and discovered that Nesby was HIV-positive. Reportedly, he never told the 16-year-old student about his status. The student will have to be tested for the virus.
Nesby was eventually arrested by police and charged with felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile and could face an additional charge of intentionally exposing someone to the AIDS virus. Both charges can carry a maximum of 10 years in prison.
Nesby denied the claims, but the judge has given him a bond of $1 million.
