“If you didn’t come last night, you tweaked.”
Last night, Hustle Simmons hosted his annual showcase of some of Chicago’s brightest up-and-coming stars. In an effort to prove Chicago can cultivate creative, innovative artists, just like anyone from Los Angeles or New York, the concert was a nice change of pace in light of the recent slaying of young rapper, Nunu. Well-known artists such as YP got their start at the showcase and artists get a taste of exposure as they work on industry prominence and promoting their personal brand.
The event was held at the popular performance venue, Reggie’s Rock Club and featured at least eight different artists with heavy Chicago ties. The “very turnt event,” in the words of Simmons, brought a packed house of hip-hop lovers to vibe to sounds of female rapper Ashley Bankz, Joey Purp, Xavier Holliday, Martin $ky among others. An event like this holds considerable valuable since its main function is to give hardworking artists a platform to exhibit their best work — it’s a show for the people, by the people. Chicago is easily recognizable as a city made of hardworking people that put in work for success; there is no reward for complacency. Last night’s performances were a true testament of “that work” and undeniable talent.
