With this week’s announcement that OutKast will be performing in their native Atlanta at Centennial Olympic Park this fall, fans are buzzing. Well, it looks like there may be more to get excited about. Andre 3000, the more reclusive half of the acclaimed duo, is rumored to be working on new music–and he may be working with another one of hip-hop’s most creative rapper-producers: Q-Tip.
According to AllHipHop, Dre and Tip were seen in the studio together, working on new music. 3000 has not released a solo album in the eight years since OutKast’s last studio project, 2006s Idlewild soundtrack. His partner-in-rhyme Big Boi has been much more focused on music; having released Sir Lucious Left Foot: Son of Chico Dusty in 2010 and Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors in late 2012.
There have been rumors surrounding a possible Andre 3000 solo project for years, but nothing has materialized, thus far. The rapper/actor/producer has stuck to guest appearances on high-profile projects by artists like Beyonce, T.I. and Rick Ross to whet fans’ appetite for new music. He’s also previously collaborated with Q-Tip. The two originally recorded “That’s Sexy” back in 2004 for Tip’s album Kamaal/The Abstract. The project was shelved until 2009, and “That’s Sexy” didn’t make the final track listing on the album.
