Fans are looking forward to the upcoming final season of HBO’s critically-acclaimed period series “Boardwalk Empire.” While the anticipation is obviously bittersweet, one of the show’s principal stars, Michael K. Williams, spoke to rolling out about what fans can expect this season, and how much has changed–both in Atlantic City in general, and specifically with his character, Chalky White.

“The days of the shiny suits and fancy clothes are over,” explains Williams. “Seven years have advanced and The Depression has set in.”

“Chalky ain’t the same man he used to be,” he shares. “He’s lost a twinkle in his eye [following] the death of his daughter [at the end of Season Four]; it’s destroyed his family.”

“[I try] to tap into the honesty and the humility and the humanity of each of these characters,” Williams says. “The characters I play tend to be looked at as menacing by society. But that’s not true. These people have hearts and families and they feel pain. There’s a reason why they are the way that they are.”
