When it comes to getting a babysitter, a parent must always be careful who they let watch, not only their kids, but also their belongings. That is what a family in Ferndale, Michigan, recently discovered thanks to their 4-year-old daughter Abbey.

The family’s 17-year-old white babysitter thought she had a great plan for a robbery. She had her boyfriend and an accomplice stage a home invasion and she already had the items picked out to steal. When the police responded she claimed two black guys, one armed with a knife and the other a gun, kicked in the back door and robbed the house. She even went so far as to point out a black man, Cody Oaks, who lived next door as a suspect. The police handcuffed Oaks and questioned him for hours because of the accusation. Fortunately for Oaks, when the police questioned 4- year-old Abbey, she told the truth. According to police, she said that “the robbers had white skin, not black” and the babysitters story fell apart. Police arrested the girl’s boyfriend and a male accomplice at a nearby hotel and now all three face charges of robbery, burglary, and perjury charges. As for Cody Oaks he stated, “It’s kind of sad because I don’t think she [the babysitter] realizes the dangerous situation she put me in,” he stated.
