Tamron Hall decided to put down the heating products and wore her natural hair for the first time on “Today” Friday.
The 43-year-old “Today” show host has fit into the mold of thinking that many African-American women need to manipulate their hair texture for their career, a subject Hall discussed with natural hair blogger Curly Nikki earlier this year:
“[Hall] shared that she sometimes felt a bit of resentment at her White colleagues who could wake up in the morning and come right in to work, entirely ‘appropriate’ or ‘professional,’ but that she’d have to spend hours — that she could have spent resting or preparing — manipulating her hair to meet the straight hair standard of beauty,” the writer reported.
Hall acknowledged Curly Nikki on Twitter ahead of the episode, writing, “Keeping my promise this morning to the Queen of #naturalhair @CurlyNikki This morning on @TODAYshow no flat iron no heat no chemicals :).”
She later added that she had been “out with @BearGrylls until midnight living in the wild” on his new program “Running Wild with Bear Grylls,” and was “simply too tire[d]” to blow dry and flat iron her hair.
Hall’s co-hosts joked around for the above photo she posted on her Instagram but overall they loved her new look. Also, Twitter sent her a lot of support and and compliments for the change, which personally we love. –joi pearson @joiapearson
