For Mike Brown: remembering slain black victims of police brutality

600x39972

Today, August 14th, 2014, people around the country will take part in a vigil for slain teenager Michael Brown, who was killed as he was walking to his grandmother’s house by a police officer in Ferguson, MO five days ago. As we gather tonight around the country for a moment of silence in remembrance of Mike Brown; it’s important to remember that what happened in Ferguson is not an isolated incident. It is evidence of an American epidemic:  the senseless murder of black people by the police officers who are sworn to serve and protect their communities.

Here are some of the most high-profile casualties of the police and their unofficial war on black communities.
