For many, teaching young children how to use a gun properly is something they believe in strongly. However, Charles Vacca, 39, paid the ultimate price for teaching a 9-year-old how to use an Uzi submachine gun. The incident happened southeast of Las Vegas at the Arizona Last Stop firing range.
According to law enforcement, Vacca was standing next to the girl showing her how to use the gun while her parents were standing nearby videotaping the entire experience. After the girl pulled the trigger for single rounds, Vacca switched the gun to automatic mode. When the 9-year-old girl squeezed the trigger, she lost control of the weapon. The gun recoiled and shot Vacca in the head. The owner of the gun range, Sam Scarmardo, stated, “We instruct kids as young as 5 on 22 caliber rifles, and they don’t get to handle high fire. But they are under the supervision of their parents and of our professional range masters.”
The parents captured video of the unfortunate accidental shooting and it can be viewed below. The video cuts off just before Vacca is shot.
