Korean designer Lie Sang Bong is touted as a master craftsman and artist known globally for his architectural collections that celebrate and enhance the body. Since founding his eponymous brand, LIE SANGBONG, in 1985, Bong has blended traditional influences and innovative techniques.
During his “Dream Road” theatrical, fashion presentation at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2015 Collection, upon entry attendees were enraptured with a beautiful custom-tiled catwalk installation. Crafted by artist and sculptor Jang Seung-Hyo, the sky-blue runway was lined with 1,188 glass tiles featuring collage-to-photo prints depicting butterflies, flowers, abstract prints and miniature models sporting Lie Sang Bong’s past and present collections.
“One good thing about being a fashion designer is that you can live in different ages, combine even oppositional ideas and techniques to create something that is both contemporary and useful, ” says Bong who fuses diverse influences, including: Korean poetry, calligraphy and architecture, Cubism, Bauhaus design, 1930s film noir heroines, and nature.
