Our next stop was Ball & Chain, a hip new restaurant right in the heart of Hollywood. The trendy spot’s décor was immaculate, but it paled in comparison to the delicious food served there. Since meatballs are their specialty, Golden got a chance to taste every single one on the menu. To be honest, she might have even stuffed a few in her purse at the end of our time there … yeah, the food was just that good.
The final stop before our adventure ended may have been the best, as we headed over to Baldwin Hills to visit Southern Girl Desserts founders Catarah Hampshire and Shoneji Robison. Every dessert was absolutely mind-blowing, and it was the perfect way to say goodbye to L.A.
As we boarded the Amtrak train to return home, Golden sat down, plugged in her laptop and looked out on the City of Angels. She closed her eyes for a moment, took a deep breath and smiled. As her eyes opened and the train began to pull out, she turned to the group and said, “This was so worth it. I hope we get to continue this journey to other cities. Let‘s make a promise that we will continue to be creative travelers.”
We all nodded in agreement. We promise.
