Rev. Juan Demetrius McFarland recently revealed to his congregation that he was diagnosed with HIV and eventually contracted AIDS. He also told members that he engaged in sex with several female members without telling them about his status.
On several occasions, he had sex on the church grounds, used drugs and misused church funds.
Although most of the congregation at Shiloh Missionary Baptist church in Montgomery, Alabama, were appalled by McFarland’s actions, he decided to remain as a church leader.
He ignored a vote that should have forced him to leave and reportedly changed the locks. In 2013, he made a prevision that would have given him total control of the church’s operations.
But after a lawsuit filed by the board of trustees, a judge ruled against McFarland. According to reports by WSFA, the judge ordered McFarland to turn over the keys to the church, his bank accounts and a Mercedes Benz.
After the hearing, McFarland left the courtroom with an unidentified woman.
