Zachary Rapheal Torrance, 18, was arrested Thursday, Oct. 30 in Hueytown, Alabama, for robbing four local Subway restaurants. He told detectives the Jared diet, which was introduced by successful dieter Jared Fogel in 2000, didn’t work and he wanted a refund.

Police allege Torrance robbed one restaurant on Wednesday and is suspected in three other recent robberies, all in the Birmingham area.

According to Hueytown police chief Chuck Hagler, “He told the detective that he had been on the ‘Subway Diet’ and it had not worked for him and he felt like he wanted his money back.”

A customer recognized Torrance from surveillance footage shared online and he was arrested in Walmart. He was there to get a holster for his handgun he used during the robberies. It is unknown whether Torrance recovered all the money he felt he was due because police haven’t disclosed the sum of money he managed to get away with. But, Torrance is being held on a $250,000 bond in the Jefferson County Jail where he is being charged with first-degree robbery.
