Out WNBA star Brittney Griner was the victim of a shocking attack in China this week when a knife-wielding man reportedly tried to assault the hardwood star.

According to NewNowNext, Griner was playing for the Beijing Great Wall in an away game against the Liaoning Hengye when she and two of her teammates decided to visit Shenyang, China.

The three ladies were walking from a practice arena to their bus when a crazed man with a knife started chasing them and yelling as he swung his knife at them.

The ladies were able to make it onto their bus, but Griner received a slash on the elbow from the man. Fortunately, she was wearing two jackets and the cut was so minor that it didn’t require stitches.

“I was thinking I was going to end up stabbed in China and if he got to us at the back of the bus, I was going to have to fight this man with a knife,” Griner said in an email to the AP. “The guy was clearly either mentally ill or very drunk. … He was yelling about us hitting his wife and it was pretty clear he had no idea who we were.”

Griner says the man left them alone and then returned with blood on him before he was arrested by police.

Griner later went online and assured her fans that she was OK despite the attack.

“First let me say I’m OK!!!! But last night me and 3 my teammates got chase [sic] and attack [sic] by a man with a big a– knife got a little scratch and my teammates walk away unharmed!” she wrote.

“He chase [sic] us into our bus and had us corned [sic] yelling at us then he finally left! Ugh lets just say I’m ready to get out this city we are visiting! Life can be took [sic] at any moment! Cherish every moment! AGAIN IM OK! Thank you to everyone that has been checking on me!” she added.

Well, we’re glad that none of the ladies were injured and that the man was apprehended before he could make another attempt to harm them. –nicholas robinson
