It’s been a while since hip-hop superstar Eminem has stoked any major controversies, but he released a Vine video called “Shady CXVPHER” on yesterday that features himself, Slaughterhouse and Yelawol, and one particular bar from his verse is drawing criticism.
“I may fight for gay rights, especially if they d–e is more of a knockout than Janay Rice,” he raps. “Play nice? B—- I’ll punch Lana Del Rey right in the face twice, like Ray Rice in broad daylight in the plain sight of the elevator surveillance / ‘Til her head is banging on the railing, then celebrate with the Ravens.”
Former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice was caught on camera knocking his soon-to-be-wife Janay unconscious earlier this year, leading to his contract with the Ravens being terminated and he was also suspended indefinitely from the NFL. The incident kickstarted a firestorm of controversy and a national debate on domestic abuse.
Rapper Azealia Banks took exception to Em’s words and tweeted an Em diss to Del Rey.
“But does Eminem know that I will personally punch him in his mouth?!” Banks tweeted.
“@LanaDelRey tell him to go back to his trailer park and eat his microwave hotpocket dinner and suck on his sister’s t—ies,” Banks wrote to Del Rey.
Incidentally, Del Rey praised Em’s music two years ago.
“He really changed my life. I didn’t know music could be intelligent,” she said at the time. “He wasn’t just rhyming for rhyme’s sake. That made me think I could actually talk about the way things actually were. He’s a genius.”
