Bladenboro, North Carolina, is a small rural town whose population is 80 percent white and 18 percent Black. When Black teen, Lennon Lacy, started dating a 32-year-old white woman, it was the talk of the town. The town has a strong KKK presence and the Black residents have witnessed numerous KKK rallies throughout the years. Lennon Lacy was found hanging from a dog leash and a belt, and the family was convinced it was a lynching. However, the county medical examiner declared Lacy’s death a suicide. The family hired an independent pathologist whose findings contradicted the medical examiner’s and now the FBI has opened an official investigation.
Now, new information is being revealed by Lacy’s girlfriend, Michelle Brimhal. Brimhal has been in hiding since Lacy’s body was found and is in fear for her life. She has told the media that she has received racist insults and threats because of the interracial romance. She does not know who killed her boyfriend but she suspects the KKK. But, the parents of Lennon Lacy feel that their son’s romance with Brimhal is what got him killed. According to family and friends, Brimhal is a crack addicted prostitute and was bad news for Lacy. His parents were opposed to the relationship and told their son as well as Brimhal to stop seeing each other. Despite Brimhal’s prostitution to pay her living expenses, Lacy still maintained feelings for the older woman.
