Using social media is a popular way to meet people for casual hookups. But for one metro Atlanta woman, it was the worst mistake of her life. The woman, whose name is being withheld by police, was on the dating website badoo.com where she met a man who identified himself by the name Cash. She decided to meet Cash in a public setting at a Waffle House restaurant for their first date.
While at the Waffle House, the two decided to go to a nearby hotel to continue the date. While en route to the hotel, things went horribly wrong when Cash pulled a gun on the woman. He then demanded all of her cash, cellphone and belongings, and she complied. That did not stop him from shooting her in the face and escaping in her black 1999 Jeep Cherokee with Rhode Island license plate number 325569. The bullet went through her cheek and passed through her ear missing arteries by just inches.
The suspect is still on the lose and the police are offering $2,000 for any information leading to the man’s arrest and indictment.
A valuable lesson for all people who use social media for dating can be learned from this horrible crime. If you decide to meet a person online and then go to a hotel room, at least get the person’s legal name and not their street name.
