Today’s young black comedians face a daunting task — how do you get on TV or radio and reach your public? For some it is a hardscrabble journey that discourages the vast majority of people trying to get into the black comedy game. For others like Philadelphia comedian Beefy Funny it takes hard work and continuous hustle to create new bits and new characters.
Beefy Funny has been on BET Comedy, Def Comedy Jam and a host of other events as a hardworking comedian. Whether it’s his self-produced comedy video series “Rappers Versus Comedians,” your local Philly comedy club or guest appearances on major Philadelphia radio stations, Beefy Funny is on the rise once again.
His latest character is Abe Finkelstein, “The King of Sports” and is a throwback to the sports bookies and forecasters who were common, like Jimmy the Greek and others. However, being a Black man with a Jewish name and catchphrases has taken Black Philly by storm. His YouTube videos can only be called street-level guerrilla comedy as he steadily builds a following and keeps his audience cracking up. What is interesting about Abe Finkelstein is that his predictions are always correct!
