Amber Rose and Wiz Khalifa may be headed for divorce, but the video model-turned-rising mogul recently opened up about her wedding day to Wiz and explained that some of her family members were opposed to her marrying Wiz because he’s Black.
Rose opened up about the race issues in her family in the new OWN documentary “Light Girls” and explained that some of her Creole family members refused to attend her wedding because she was marrying a Black man.
“With my family, they feel like they’re more superior or better than an African American because we’re Creole and we have culture and that’s something I [have battled] with most of my life. It’s more of the older people in my family,” Rose explained.
Rose went on to explain that it angers her that her family values the idea of passing as white over embracing Blackness.
“It’s such a sensitive subject that it’s hard to explain yourself without sounding mean or bitter or angry, but I am. I’m angry that my family is like that and they want to pass so bad that they raise my mom and my uncles and my aunts to not fully know their culture,” she said.
We never would have guessed that Rose had such race issues in her family and it’s sad that ignorant personal hang-ups about race deterred her family members from coming to her wedding and embracing the man she loved. We wonder what Wiz has to say about her family’s impact on his wedding day.
