Blacks dolls matter: Meet 4 Black doll designers

Like many young Black girls, Stacey McBride-Irby, played with Barbie dolls. As a teenager she decided to child’s play into her life’s work and studied fashion design. In time she became a designer for Mattel, the same company that made her childhood toys.  Mcbride-Irby designed the  So In Style™ line of Black Barbie™ dolls which were released in 2009. Now McBride-Irby is the creator of The Prettie Girls! Mcbride-Irby’s motto is, “A happy, inspired childhood creates happy, inspired and powerful women.”
