All eyes were on the Black Women Film Network’s second annual Black Women Film Summit held at the fabulous Marriott Marquis in Atlanta, a three-day event dedicated to celebrating Black women who are making a name for themselves in the industry whether it be as an actress, filmmaker, or television producer.
BWFN has been active for over two decades preparing women and minorities for a successful career in television but mainly the film industry. The nonprofit organization gives back every year by honoring film professionals and students through various awards and scholarships presented at its “Untold Stories” luncheon. This year’s ceremony was hosted by comedian Johnathan Slocumb and music was provided by DJ Salah Ananse. Plus, the attendees were surprised with a performance from “Empire” actress V. Bozeman, who sang her hit song “What Is Love.”
This years honorees included: casting director Robi Reed; film producer Will Packer; Georgia Film & TV Sourcebook publisher Tia Powell; Black Women Film Network chair emeritus, Tomika DePriest;135th Street Agency founder Shante Bacon; The Georgia Production Partnership; and actors Lamman Rucker and Logan Browning.
