Oxygen’s new show, “Player Gets Played,” which debuts tonight, is about a cheater getting busted. Any woman who’s been jilted will take delight in this opening episode. Rolling out had the privilege of interviewing Elijah Connor; a preacher’s kid, entertainer, and Don Juan whose dream of dating three amazing woman at the same time comes to a screeching halt when they discover his shenanigans.
Why would a man intentionally date three women at the same time and think he could honestly get away with it? Well, Elijah Conner filled us in on his escapades:
Elijah, how does one get caught up dating three ladies at the same time?
Well, each woman brought something different to the table. Emily was more of a business woman and has great conversation. Maria was that beauty queen, ya know the pretty ones typically don’t have great conversation; and Brittany was a background singer, we spent a lot of time on the road together and she was a cheerleader for the Pistons.
OK, so you had a little variety pack going on?
If I could find a woman who had great sex. great conversation, [could] cook and all that in one, then I might settle down. But it took three girls for me to get all that. At the end of the day Brittany can cook and Emily can’t. I didn’t plan on playing these girls. I don’t feel like they really got played because they all walked away with something.
You basically saw nothing wrong due to the fact that each girl was different?
I was dating for data. I was trying to figure out what I wanted. Emily, I was paying her mortgage, Lillian she got Chanel handbags and shoes; Maria got the world. I’m single. I’m good looking and I’m an entertainer. For any of them to think they were the only one was utterly ridiculous. You have to figure I’m an entertainer and this type of thing to date multiple women kind of just comes with the territory. I didn’t feel like I was cheating on anyone because “I was not married.”
So are you married now?
No. I’m still not married. So if I had anything to do differently I wouldn’t change much. Well, let me restate that. It wasn’t my intention to lie to them. It just happened to end up that I led them to believe something that wasn’t true.
Wait, so did you all live in the same city? How were you able to pull that off?
I had this routine going on. I woke up and text everyone “good morning beautiful.” Even though we all lived in the same city. I was very strategic with how I handled the situation. When I met Emily, she was kind of rough around the edges, but when I got her I polished her up. She was all into her business, so I moved her out to the suburbs like 1 hour away, because Brittany lived downtown. Emily didn’t know about any of the elite parties so I didn’t have to worry about running into her there. It was all strategically planned. I got away with it for two years.
Wow! At least you felt bad about the lying. Would you date multiple women at the same time again?
Yes, but I think I wouldn’t lie next time. My boy told me I should have told the women the deal and I would be surprised what women are willing to put up with. I really believe in what Mayweather said, “You should have as many women as you can afford.”
What signs would you tell women to look for that a man might be the kind of guy who dates multiple women.
Look at a guy and how he was moving around when you met him. Where she met me at was my single release party. I was around nothing but women the entire night. So I’m thinking when you met me I was around lots of women.
When did the situation start to go awry?
They went searching! When you go searching for dirt, you are going to find it!
How do you think it made the women feel when you betrayed their trust? From the trailer it looks like Maria was really hurt and devastated.
I don’t think Maria really cared that I had other things going on. As long as she was on my arm and on that red carpet. She didn’t care. She comes from money anyway. A lot of times those who are used to being kept by daddy really don’t care what else is going on as long as you don’t bring it home. As long as it’s not in their face.
Describe your perfect woman.
When meeting someone you don’t know if they have a good heart, so what attracts me to them initially is, they definitely need to be attractive. I like brown skin, dark skin, Italian; I really don’t have a preference.
Body type?
I prefer the 36-24-38. I really prefer the curves. I like when I walk in a room and my girl is bad and she’s turning heads. I like that.
Party girl, wifey type?
I’m kind of old-fashioned. I don’t want my girl to work. If she wants to have a career or hobby type career I’m OK with that. Only if she does it because she wants to be doing something that would be OK.
Describe your idea of the perfect date.
Hmm, the perfect date for me is if you are going to have a date that evening at 8 p.m. you should send her flowers around noon. Maybe attach a letter. … You have to start making love to her mind first. So you start that hours prior to the actual date.
You are definitely the hopeless romantic type.
