Mykki Blanco has made a name for himself in the hip-hop and art world over the past few years for pushing the boundaries with rebellious attitude, gender-bending fashions and queer themes. But now the MC, who sometimes refers to himself as transgender, has shocked the world in a sobering way by revealing that he’s HIV positive.
Blanco made the startling revelation to his fans on his Facebook page Sunday night, sharing that he was diagnosed with HIV years ago.
Blanco’s post was flooded with support from his loyal fans and he quickly begin responding to their questions and comments. In response to one fan in particular, Blanco shared that his decision to come out as HIV positive probably wouldn’t sit well with the music industry.
And to another fan, he explained how he maintains his health and why he disclosed his status.
We’re glad that Blanco is fully living in his truth and truly showing that he’s a courageous artist. And although the music industry may not approve of his disclosure, we applaud him for being an inspiration with this powerful move.
