Sonia Noel ranks among international fashion designers elite
Sonia Noel is an international designer who’s created pieces for singer Michelle Williams and Miss Universe. On June 28, she produced a fashion show and meet-and-greet, which was held at Cobb Galleria Specialty Shops in Atlanta. It was a part of Caribbean Heritage Month.
Having left her mark in the Caribbean and New York, Guyana’s fashion icon is now making a splash in Atlanta. Noel’s collection can be found at Design Faze Boutique, a chic women’s specialty shop located at Cobb Galleria. Her designs are created for day and night, the beach and the ballroom.
Noel has grown from showcasing her fashions in local beauty pageants in her small town of Bartica, Guyana to hosting presentations all over the world including International Fashion Fair, Caribbean Fashion Week (trades and presentations in Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe, French Guyana, Antigua, St Kitts, St Lucia, St Vincent and Trinidad), NEDCO Fashion Weekend and New York Caribbean Fashion Week. The CEO of Guyana Fashion Weekend, she was one of the seven Caribbean designers hand-picked by Caribbean Export to showcase in London during the 2012 Olympics.
Noel tells The Voice, “We, as Caribbean designers, have something special to offer the world. The Caribbean has a unique brand of style resulting from our colorful, eclectic, cosmopolitan history of influences. The outside world looks at us as the eclectic paradise people.”
The chairwoman of the fashion committee for CARIFESTA, Noel has held the honor as ‘Caribbean Fashion Ambassador’ at the 2011 British Virgin Islands Fashion weekend, the Regional Lifetime Achievement award and ‘Recognition of contribution to the world of fashion.’
