Artist Andy Davis was handpicked by Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal to create the statue of Dr. Martin L. King Jr., earlier this month. Davis had created many high profile sculptures throughout the state and his appointment was held in high regard for creating the MLK Jr. statue that will stand on the grounds of the Georgia Statehouse.
It has now been learned that Andy Davis was hit from behind while riding his motorcycle this weekend. The injuries were severe and resulted in head trauma and a decision was made to place Davis on life support. According to officials the head injuries were so severe; Davis was taken off life support Saturday at 3:30 pm.
The driver who allegedly hit Davis has been identified as Corey Sease, 20, and he was found in possession of marijuana. Davis was a well known Georgia artist who gave back to the community by supporting the visual arts. He turned an old vacant factory into a community art center in McDonough, Georgia.
