Former neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson is making appearances around the country in an attempt to win the hearts of Americans before the 2016 presidential race really heats up. The Republican candidate is no stranger to controversy, and proved that once again when he said that Planned Parenthood is on a mission to eliminate the Black population.
The 63-year-old was on a phone interview with Des Moines’ WHO Radio when host Jan Mickelson played a clip of President Barack Obama saying, “Thank you Planned Parenthood. God bless you.” Carson said he pondered whether the president knows the true purpose of the organization.
“You wonder if he actually knows the history of Planned Parenthood and Margaret Sanger, who was trying to eliminate Black people,” Carson responded. “That was the whole purpose of it.”
The longtime women’s reproductive rights organization has been called into question before based on claims it was racist and had a hidden agenda. A documentary, Maafa 21, discussed this idea and revealed derogatory comments that came from Planned Parenthood Founder Margaret Sanger and the organization’s affiliates.
Mickelson later played a snippet from Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton’s 2009 speech when she was accepting the Planned Parenthood Margaret Sanger Award.
“I admire Margaret Sanger enormously, her courage, her tenacity, her vision,” Clinton stated. “I am really in awe of her.”
Carson told the host he’s glad there is audio of his fellow candidates supporting Planned Parenthood because he will use the evidence against them if he wins the nomination.
“I am delighted to have her saying that on tape because if I am a nominee and we are in the race, believe me that quotation that she just said will come back and it will be in a context that people can understand,” Carson explained. “She has done us a great favor right there.”
