Actor Blair Underwood has worked in Hollywood for 30 years and is adored by fans worldwide. He has played in several television roles, from a charismatic attorney on “L.A. Law” to a sexy love interest on “Sex in the City.” Now, he’s continuing his consistent work on the small screen on the popular ABC superhero drama, Marvel’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and will soon be trying his hand at directing.

“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is based on the peacekeeping and spy organization S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division), which was originally created by Stan Lee’s Marvel Comics. The organization is swarming with superheros and supernatural figures, but Underwood plays neurologist and forensic psychologist Andrew Garner, Ph.D., who is Agent Melinda May’s ex-husband.

“I start shooting Aug. 4. I’m very excited about that too because my kids love it,” Underwood told rolling out.

The show, which was co-created by Joss Whedon of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” will begin shooting its third season this summer.

Underwood will soon be delving into directing in the film, Silent Voice. He explained it as a “coming-of-age story of a young man who lost his voice when he was 16 years old.” The twist is that although the young protagonist’s vocal chords were severed in a car accident, he wants to be a rapper.

“So he’s starting his journey of finding his voice within his personal life, within his family, his girlfriend, and also just finding his way in the world,” the actor explained. “But he’s a rap artist — that’s what’s so unique about it.”
