Up-and-coming Atlanta talent J’Plus The Entertainer is gearing up to be the next big superstar, and he’s only 13-years-old. As an actor, rapper, dancer, comedian and model, J’Plus is ready to take the world by storm with his new single, “Money In My Pockets.”

J’Plus has not only been known to get crowds hyped at various shows, but he has also appeared in movies such as A Christmas to Remember and Deficiency Notice. The artist also played a role in Wanda Smith’s musical, Superstar Dreamz.

On the heels of the release of “Money In My Pockets,” which drops Aug. 29, we asked J’Plus some intimate questions to get to know the rising star.

Do you actively seek inspiration or does it find you? Or is it a combination of the two?

Inspiration is something that is God-given and driven through purpose and the wealth of knowledge, so inspiration seeks me.

What led you to art in general and to your art form in particular?

Ever since I was a little kid, I was always acting out something I would see in a movie or a lyric out of a song, and it just seems like the talent was God-given, so when you are blessed with a gift, you have no choice but to use it. So what led me is the vision of one day being successful and on top of the world.

How do you stay at the leading edge of your craft?

By always being innovative, always focusing on bettering myself, and just staying 10 steps ahead of the next man.

Who do you see or use as examples to emulate?

I don’t emulate because there is only one J’Plus, so I don’t emulate at all. But I [am] inspired by Jay Z, My Pops, T.I., Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Nas, 2Pac, Marlon Wayans, Nick Cannon, Kevin Hart, Snoop Dogg and Martin Lawrence.

Name two of your top role models, one in the art world and one from outside of it.

My main role model in the art world is Diddy and my role models outside the art world are my parents.

Name three books, works, performances or exhibits that changed how you view life, yourself or both.

The Autobiography Of Malcolm X, The Bible, and two songs that have changed my view in life are Notorious B.I.G.’s “Sky’s The Limit” and “Rule” [by] Nas.

What software, app or other technological innovation has made the biggest difference in your life or career?

Instagram shows me now that this game is no longer based off of quality talent, [so] Instagram is a reality check.

Please define your personal brand.

My personal brand has always been innovative, talented, sexy, fly, fresh, and thought-provoking.

If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?

I would change the crooked laws.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I wouldn’t change a thing because I’m more than in love with myself already.

What does it take to be iconic? In your estimation, who has achieved that status?

It takes a lifelong focus, work ethic, and bright personality. The person who represents [an] icon in my mind is Michael Jackson.
