BET Digital and Hennessy V.S linked up to present the “How to Rock Kicks” runway show at New York City’s Milk Studios Thursday night. The live steamed fashion show featured entertainers, designers, and models fashioning their favorite sneakers and discussing their love of fresh footwear.

Rappers Fabolous, Pusha T, Mack Wilds, and more hit the runway to flaunt their kicks. Pusha T also took BET back to Virginia Beach, where he grew up, and stopped at his high-end boutique, Creme.

“The sneaker culture is usually regional,” Pusha T said of Virginia Beach. “I would say that there isn’t one shoe that I would attribute to Virginia Beach, 757, Tidewater culture.”

Creative artist Vashtie also hit the runway and shared her story with BET on how growing up poor sparked her love for designer sneakers as an adult. The 34-year-old party promoter, DJ and film director also said that she became infatuated with Air Jordan shoes, calling them the sneaker version of a BMW. She also shared how she started wearing sneakers to formal events way before it became popular.

“I kind of got known for being a tomboy in an industry that was sort of like, male-dominated,” Vashtie said. “Dressing the way I would dress, wearing bagging jeans and sneakers — going to the club in sneakers and going to a red carpet event in sneakers, which nowadays is common, but 10 years ago, it wasn’t that common.”
