Celebrate Black fathers, heroes: Sigmas take their sons to Marvel Universe LIVE!

Phi Beta Sigma Marvel 13

“We brought the kids to Marvel Universe LIVE! to spark their imagination and to thrill their senses. The Avengers also demonstrated how collective talents are the strength of teamwork,” shares Leroy Brown, father of three.

“I wanted my kids to experience the very first Marvel live event with the same characters that their father grew up reading in comic books and watching on tv,” explains Everett Myrick, father of one.

“The men of the Iota Phi Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma attended Marvel Universe LIVE! this year to build brotherhood while giving our sons to see a positive image of Black men. Black fathers who are real life everyday heroes taking our kids to see fictional superheroes,” Maze Jackson avers.

Members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. Iota Phi Sigma Chapter and their families went on an outing to Marvel Universe LIVE! at the United Center this past Friday, Sep. 11, 2015, in Chicago.

The live entertainment experience provided an opportunity for the fraternity members to fellowship and have fun while seeing their favorite Marvel super heroes including Spider-Man, The Avengers, Iron Man, the Hulk and more.

The children dressed in their favorite character’s costume and were accompanied by their loved ones to experience being a superhero for the night.

We want our children to be superheroes and that’s more than possible. A superhero in the courtroom, a superhero in the operating room, a superhero who finds the cure for cancer. The Marvel experience was the perfect place for the kids to imagine themselves as characters who are in fact heroic. Dream the impossible. Think bigger than usual. Be smart. Be strong, Be intelligent. Our kids need to know the sky is the limit. There’s nothing they can’t accomplish. Their strength combined with their limitless mental capacity, i.e. imagination, commissions ingenuity. It’s supernatural.

You couldn’t wipe the smiles off the kids’ faces. They gleamed with happiness and excitement. They were thrilled and their energy was contagious. The awe of having supernatural powers can manifest provided confidence is instilled. There are heroes inside each of us.

Witnessing these families with their little geniuses, future engineers, lawyers, humanitarians, while holding their hands and molding their minds, it’s plain to see these fathers are the first superheroes in the eyes of these children.
