DJ Mustard has created his own path in hip hop as a producer. Since entering the game he’s worked with various artists from Meek Mill to Young Jeezy. In 2013, Complex magazine deemed him, “one of the best rap producers out right now.” Since then, DJ Mustard has dropped a studio album 10 Summers and kept the clubs bang’in with his most recent collaborations.
This summer following his album, DJ Mustard dropped 10 Summers the Mixtape Volume 1. The mixtape includes 17 tracks of raw hip-hop fire that prove that DJ Mustard is one of this generation’s sound innovators.
10 Summers the Mixtape Volume 1 features some of the top up-and-coming artists from DJ Mustard’s camp, like RJ, who is featured on several tracks. Fan favorites from the mixtape “Love” feat. Justin Skye, and “Ice Cream” feat. Dom Kennedy and Ty Dolla $ign, have kept social media buzzing over DJ Mustard’s new sound.
Before he ripped the stage, rolling out had the opportunity to speak with the talented DJ at the Coors Light Soundtrack Refresh Tour in Charlotte
How do you describe your style of deejaying?
I don’t really have a specific style. I mix and create with all types of music being defined really isn’t my style. I mix genres of music to create a new sound every day. I’m all about music for the streets.
What were some of your biggest influences for your last project?
Just real gritty West Coast music, real dark dark, dirty ghetto, all that type of music.
What can we expect to hear from DJ Mustard in the future?
Everything, man. Expect the unexpected. New music, new artist, new sound. Just everything.
DJ Mustard has proven that his trendsetting technique alone is a game changer. The West Coast artist continues to recreate his sound and signature beats.
