When Marques Houston launched his own production company Footage Films, it was only fitting that when he finished his first project, Will to Love, that he’d call on his friend and fellow vet in the TV and film game, Keshia Knight Pulliam, to play a big part.
“Marques and I have worked together before and he sent me the script and I thought it was a nice, feel good, romantic movie that I felt people would enjoy and relate to. I said count me in,” says Pulliam. “It’s always a bonus when you’re working with fun, good people because you work long hours.”
Filmed in Corona, California, located in Riverside County, Will to Love is a romantic comedy about a bachelor named Jamal (Houston) who is expecting a financial windfall. He’s set to inherit his grandfather’s toilet paper empire. But in order to cash in on the prize, he must find a wife before his grandfather’s time on earth expires.
“Rachel was a friend who went to college with him … I dated the ‘homie.’ And he was looking for an assistant and ended up hiring me,” says Pulliam as she gives us her character, Rachel Paris’ backstory. “It’s a lot of twists and turns. He has to marry for love in order to inherit the company. As his assistant, I am helping him and hopelessly in love with him.”
Pulliam says filming was complete in two weeks, which required dedication, focus and preparedness.
Spoiler alert: “In one of the office scenes, we are interviewing women and reacting to the craziness they bring. Then there’s a scene where Rachel gets feisty and finally comes into her own and gets her comeback,” shares Pulliam about revealing a side to her many fans have not seen before.
Will to Love is out Tuesday, Oct. 6 available in stores like Walmart, on VOD and iTUnes.
