Atlanta is a place constantly brewing with new, emerging talent. The competitive atmosphere in the city makes it challenging for up-and-coming musicians to get noticed, but that isn’t the case for R&B singer-songwriter Young Marco. The 18-year-old rising star believes his unique sound and gift of playing multiple instruments will make fans and executives gravitate to his music. After several years of working in artist development, he believes his consistency has kept him at the leading edge of his craft. Marco is dedicated to bringing back the classic vibes of R&B grooves with his own melodic twist. He completed his debut album Tell The World in 2013 and has plans for releasing the anticipated project in 2016.

Currently, Marco is on tour performing his latest single “Gone Long Gone,” which paints a vivid picture of his personal experience with domestic violence. He uses lyrically conscious records to tell real stories that are relatable to his listeners. Young Marco spoke with rolling out to tell us more about his future goals and how he will continue to distinguish his brand from other artists.

How did you arrive at this career choice? Was it a deliberate decision or a gradual and natural evolution?

Honestly, it was a hard decision. I had to choose between football, which I have played since age 5.  It was hard letting one go, but it has been a great outcome so far.

What separates you from other artists in the music industry? What is unique about the experience that you create?

Actually, several things, I play the guitar, which I learned off of YouTube last year.  I also sing, rap, write my own music and produce.

For those considering entering this arena, what skill sets do you recommend mastering? What traits are most conducive to success?

I would have to say performing. It took me years to master, but by going to artist development, which I still attend at Marvelous Enterprise located here in Atlanta, it has helped me.

Do you think that there are any widely held misconceptions about what you do? If so, what are they and how do you work to dispel them?

Honestly, when people see me they expect for me to be a rapper or an R&B singer, but what surprises them is that I play the guitar and make urban-pop, acoustic, and wave-music, which is a new genre my generation created.

How do you map out your goals? How do you measure your success?

I honestly try not to, but my manger makes me write on a chalk board at her house a timeline of milestones I wish to complete and look at it everyday.

Who do you consider to be your peers in your field? Who do you see or use as examples to emulate?

I try not emulate people but you have to start somewhere . I would have to say Drake , Ed Sheeran and Frank Ocean.

What role does technology play in your day-to-day life? How do you utilize it?

Social media works for promoting my music and touching my fans. They can follow me on all social media platforms at  @Iam_youngmarco.

How do you stay connected with fans?
