Camille Cosby is being forced to reveal intimate knowledge regarding her marriage to embattled comedian Bill Cosby. Seven women in a Massachusetts civil case subpoenaed Cosby for a deposition under oath. It is believed that the plaintiffs in the case plan also to release the responses from Camille Cosby which could cause embarrassment. In a legal motion filed last week she stated “It would be an undue burden on her and invade her rights to privacy and claims her husband has decided to not drag her into his counter-suit to testify.” However, United States Magistrate Judge David H. Hennessy ruled against Mrs. Cosby, stating in his response, “I reject Mrs. Cosby’s argument that her subpoena should be quashed on the grounds that it presents an undue burden.”
On Monday, the legal team for Mrs. Cosby filed an emergency motion appealing under the Massachusetts marital disqualification law. In addition, her defense team requested that her deposition be delayed until it is determined the extent of her marital privilege. Because Camille Cosby was also the business manager of Bill Cosby, she possesses intimate knowledge of his financial dealings. This would include past out of court settlements with past accusers of her husband.
Judge Hennessy has now ruled that the requested deposition will be delayed while the appeal from Cosby’s legal team is being decided. This has granted a delay of the deposition that was to occur today, Jan. 6, 2016. The plaintiffs in the Massachusetts case are Tamara Green, Therese Serignese, Linda Traitz, Louisa Moritz, Barbara Bowman, Joan Tarshis and Angela Leslie. The women are suing Bill Cosby for defamation for calling them all liars.
