President Obama gave his final State of the Union address last night. In the final year of his presidency, Obama spoke clearly with regard to foreign policy, health care and the economy. Many gathered at the DuSable Museum on the South Side of Chicago to watch the final State of the Union address from the first Black president of the United States. The watch party was sponsored by The Young and Powerful Group led by Wendell Mosby. The mood was celebratory and filled with pride. Generally, most people feel as though President Obama has done a great job with the hand he was given. There are other individuals who feel that more legislation beneficial to Black people should have been passed. Some felt as though he should have been more open when speaking about black people and the issues that plague us.

These sentiments and more were discussed by a panel after the address. Congressional candidate Patrick Brutus moderated the panel and had this to say about the president’s speech, “I feel as if the president reaffirmed the reason why I’m running for Congress. The bold plans that he has for America’s future can only be attained with visionary leaders who have 21st century goals, not only for our country, but for our state, region and city.”
