The Queen of Soul will soon be competing with legendary diva Patti LaBelle in grocery stores around the country.
Aretha Franklin is not only busy helping the citizens of Flint, Michigan, during their water crisis, but she’s also launching her own brand of cuisine. The 73-year-old is in talks with a food group from Phoenix to begin developing her products. LaBelle has had huge success with her sweet potato pies, but during a phone interview with morning anchor Evrod Cassimy of Detroit’s Local 4 News Today, Franklin said that the fellow singer will have to make room for her on the shelves.
When Cassimy asked her if she had tasted one of LaBelle’s pies, she replied, “No, I haven’t, but Ms. Patti’s gonna have to move that pie to the side!”
Franklin, who has been a diabetic for many years, plans to offer reasonably healthy meals. She said choices will include baked chicken, dressing, chili, and gumbo.
