She showed pride in being Black.
Paying homage to the Black Panthers and reciting lines from her song such as “I like my baby heir with baby hair and afros/
I like my negro nose with Jackson Five nostrils” is the furthest Beyoncé has gone to publicly show Black pride since … probably ever. After all, the days of mainstream entertainers like Paul Robeson, Muhammad Ali, Jim Brown, and others speaking out about Black issues had dyed down over the years. Many have speculated that this was by design. So, it’s suspect that when Beyoncé shows her solidarity with other movements such as those championing gay or feminist views, the general public is fine with it, but she — as a Black woman — is only facing a big uproar now that she’s showing solidarity with pro-Black causes.
