A teenage girl in Georgia was humiliated and told that she was worthless by a male teacher. According to reports by WSB-TV, the incident occurred at Greene County High in Greene County, Georgia, in December 2015.
The teen, Shaniaya Hunter, was attempting to get clarity on a subject and asked her teacher, Cory Hunter, a question. She was also recording the conversation on an iPad because she has trouble seeing out of one eye. The teacher was discussing Black history and mentioned Sojourner Truth. But instead of giving the student guidance, the teacher responded by making sexist remarks and insulting the child’s intelligence. Coincidentally, Hunter used grammatically incorrect English when insulting the student.
“I have been around for 37 years and clearly, you are the dumbest girl that I have ever met,” Hunter said. “You know what your purpose gonna be? To have sex and have children, because you ain’t gonna never be smart. Then she can’t see or work an iPad.”
During the recording, another student asked Hunter if he was related to Shaniaya since they shared the same last name. The teacher responded by saying, “S— no!” Shaniaya eventually stopped recording the lesson after the teacher made remarks about having sex with women on a desert island.
Cory Hunter has had several complaints lodged against him, but he has yet to be reprimanded. Shaniaya’s family has hired an attorney and is seeking to have Cory Hunter fired.
Cory Hunter’s discouraging remarks against the student proves that he is unprofessional and doesn’t have the emotional intelligence to be a teacher. He must face expulsion immediately and the school and county should agree to settle with Shaniaya for the pain and suffering she endured from a person whose job is to educate and provide guidance.
