Lil Mama had a rough day yesterday as news traveled around the Internet that she was arrested in NYC for speeding and driving without a valid license. At the time the story was published, little was known about Lil Mama’s fate and she had yet to respond to the scandal. But now it appears that Lil Mama was released from jail because she’s posted a statement, apologizing for her arrest.

As previously reported, the incident happened around 4 a.m. yesterday morning when Lil Mama was driving through Harlem and was pulled over by police at Fifth Avenue and West 135th Street for driving 38 mph in a 25 mph speed zone.  Although it seemed like Lil Mama would likely be released with just a warning or a minor speeding ticket, things took a turn for the worse for the former “America’s Best Dance Crew” host when officers ran her information through their system and discovered that her license had been revoked.

Understandably, the officers arrested her for speeding and for illegally driving without a license and Lil Mama was taken into custody.

Although little else was known about the arrest at press time, later that evening Lil Mama released a statement to the press, apologizing for getting arrested and for letting her fans down.

“I would like to apologize to my family, friends and fans for my actions last night. I made a mistake and it was totally irresponsible of me to drive without a valid drivers license. My actions do not in any way reflect who I am as a person,” Lil Mama said.

The “Lip Gloss” and “Sausage” rapper then explained that she was taking full responsibilities for her actions and that she would accept any legal punishment that may come from her arrest.

“As I move forward, I have learned a valuable lesson and understand the consequences for my actions which resulted in my arrest. I appreciate the support and the concern for my well being during this time. I have worked very hard, and I would like to continue to be a role model for young women and men. With that being said, I accept full responsibility for my actions and will take the necessary measures to have this quickly resolved and corrected,” Lil Mama wrote.

That’s a mature response from Lil Mama and we hope she has indeed learned her lesson. We’ll have to wait and see what a judge has to say later on about Lil Mama’s punishment, though, we doubt it will be anything major.
