Raymond Winzy, 34, is accused of sexually abusing “a number of 16-year-old students.” The computer teacher and girls’ basketball coach at Slidell Junior High in Slidell, Louisiana, “had sex with a 16-year-old girl in a classroom, groped others and lured in newcomers with promises of better grades,” according to police.
He’s also accused of having nude photos of students on his cellphone. Winzy was arrested on Wednesday, March 15, 2016, after a student reported his offenses to administrators at the school.
“He [Winzy] would start off with casual conversations, which would eventually lead into inappropriate conversations. After the female students would trust him, Winzy would invite the students to his classroom. In some cases, Winzy would begin to fondle the young females, ask for nude photographs or explicit videos. And in some cases, Winzy had sex with one student multiple times inside of his classroom,” said Slidell Police Chief Randy Smith.
Winzy started working at the school in July 2015. He once coached girls basketball at First Baptist Christian in Slidell and Franklinton High School and worked as a college assistant at Dillard University.
According to reports, Winzy would “lure in” students with promises of food and good grades. Once he gained their trust, he proceeded with his request for sex.
“Student safety is our top priority. As soon as the allegations were brought to our attention, we notified the Slidell Police Department. I am extremely disturbed by these charges, and our school system remains committed to working with police investigators,” said school Superintendent Trey Folse.
Winzy is currently being held at the St. Tammany Parish jail in Covington, Louisiana on 14 counts: two counts of molestation of a juvenile by an educator, nine counts of production of child pornography and three counts of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile.
None of the abused girls, all of whom were 16 years old, were on the basketball team. Police suspect that there may be other victims, and ask anyone with information to call them on (985) 646-4347.
