What should have been a happy revelation about Adrienne Bailon’s love life turned into a firestorm of controversy last month when “The Real” co-host was accused of being a home wrecker after it was revealed that she’s dating Grammy Award-winning gospel singer Israel Houghton. Now, Bailon is finally setting the record straight on why she’s not involved in any love triangle.
As previously reported, fans learned about the new romance between Bailon and Houghton when photos of the two cuddled up on the beaches of Tulum, Mexico, hit the Web last month. It didn’t take long for fans to accuse Bailon of being the reason Houghton divorced his wife of 20 years, Meleasa Houghton, earlier this year.
However, Bailon posted then deleted a brief denial of the accusations, while Houghton posted a lengthy Instagram message explaining that Bailon had nothing to do with his divorce.
Well, we guess that Bailon got tired of people continuing to talk about the so-called controversy because yesterday she finally spoke out in detail on her relationship during a segment of “The Real” and clarified that Houghton is not married, nor would she date a married man.
“Yes, I am dating. His name is Israel Houghton, as some of you guys may know. And I think, I’m more than anything so grateful that I have a platform like this where I can be with my girls. The show is called ‘The Real.’ It is a place to speak about the truth and honesty and be real about things. So with that being said, this man pictured here is not married. Praise God!” Bailon said.
Bailon then addressed Houghton’s statement and explained that Houghton’s marriage was over long before she got together with him.
“He had actually put out a statement. He uh … He is single, number one. And I think the other thing that people were saying was that I was the cause of his divorce. Which I think any divorce is obviously a sad thing people have to go through. It takes time to get through that sort of thing. And I think no-one put that time together. I think you see an announcement made you know, at the top of this year and then you see these photos and you say to yourself, “Well let’s put this together.” But this is why I’m grateful for moments like this because it allows you to set the facts straight. And God forbid the facts get in the way of a really good juicy story,” Bailon said.
The talk show host then explained how the rumors that she was a home wrecker were hurtful even though she knew they were false.
“I’m going to say the truth and the truth of the matter is that isn’t the case. He obviously is divorced. He had put out a statement saying that um he had failed in his marriage and it was about five years back. I didn’t know him at that time, so to put that blame on me was obviously hurtful,” Bailon said.
Well, at this point, there’s nothing left for either Bailon or Houghton to say. Now, it’s time for them to just enjoy their relationship and work to keep the public out of their private lives.
