A man in Florida manipulated prostitutes by posing as a police officer. According to Sun-Sentinel, Mike Rose, 23, drove around Fort Lauderdale in areas where heavy prostitution was taking place. He presented himself as an undercover police officer after picking up women.

On his final ruse, Rose picked up a woman and drove her to the Broward Sheriff’s Office and pretended to make a phone call to another officer who would arrest the woman. He then told the woman that she would have to sex with him if she wanted to avoid jail. Assuming that Rose was lying when he was making the phone call, the woman dialed 911. Once Rose realized the woman was calling official police officers, he let her out of the car and drove away.

Rose was eventually arrested and revealed that he used the trick on three different occasions to get unprotected sex from prostitutes. Initially, Rose faced two felony charges that would have led to 20 years behind bars. However, he pleaded no contest and was sentenced to 270 days in jail and three years of probation. Rose’s sentence was reduced because he didn’t have a prior record. Once he is released from prison, he must undergo therapy for sex addiction.

Rose’s case is similar to Jeff Bugai of San Francisco. In 2014, Bugai posed as a police officer and tricked men into having sex. Bugai went after Central American immigrant men who spoke poor English. Bugai would take the men to his home where he would handcuff them and force them to perform sex acts and sodomize his victims.

In February 2015, Bugai was found guilty of 17 felony counts, including sexual assault, attempted sexual assault, sodomy, assault, sexual battery, forcible oral copulation, false imprisonment and extortion. He was eventually sentenced to 65 years to life in prison.
