Houston rapper Paul Wall took a trip to Denver to serve as the headlining act for Backwoods Cigars’ 420 celebration. Held at The Glitter Dome, an age gated venue, the festival included unique marijuana paraphernalia, marijuana-related art, and clothing lines dedicated to marijuana.
Backwoods Cigars provided adult smokers over 21 with an opportunity to engage with their brand and gain information on their latest products. Before Paul Wall hit the stage, he spoke with rolling out to discuss 420 in Denver and the collaboration with Backwoods. He also discussed his recent weight loss from making healthier choices when it comes to exercise and eating habits.
“We’ve been on Backwoods for a long time,” Wall said of his collaboration with Backwoods Cigars. “Probably since about 1998, we’ve always used Backwoods so it was only right to come together and do something bigger.”
Wall also discussed how he changed his lifestyle after he gained 320 pounds during the height of his rap career in the mid-2000s. The weight gain led to high blood pressure and depression. Paul Wall eventually lost 100 pounds and became somewhat of a symbol for healthy eating and exercise in hip-hop.
“With all of the parties, touring and eating on the road, my body was getting out of control,” Wall said. “But if you want to be in this game for a long time, you have to put in that hard work. So I invested in being healthy. Being healthy is as important as your bank account. So you have to take care of yourself. My wife and I created FeelRich.com and she opened a women’s gym. We’ve both stayed focused on health.”
Wall released the Slab God album in September 2015 and is currently working on a new project.
Following our interview, Paul Wall hit the stage at The Glitter Dome where he performed hits such as “Draped Up (remix),” “Chunk Up the Duece,” and “Sittin’ Sidewayz.”
